Think Twice!

At the begining of the year Jean and I decided that we need to be thinking twice before we do anything. Not just the big decisions but even the small decisions, like when we leave home to go out into the day, think twice. It works, instead of being just 5 minutes from the house and saying 'Oh I meant to bring such and such' we already have such and such with us and our venture out is off to a good start. Frustration avoided and peace reigns. But it is also worth bearing in mind for big decisions.

This morning Jean shared with me something from a devotional she was doing on how people make decisions, in this instance they seem to be refering to thinking more than twice, to thinking four times!

Firstly we make decisons based on me, does this benefit me? This is the most dangerous one as it is all about me and self seeking, it is very seldom going to lead to a satisfying outcome, me always wants more.

Secondly, we make decisions based on is it right? is it right for whom? Again our moral compass can be swayed by our view of right and wrong, what is going to be right for me and therefore satisfy me, may be totally wrong and damaging for others.

Thirdly, is it wise? following on from is it right? is the question is it wise? Not everything we do in pursuit of our own self gratification damages others, sometimes we are just damaging ourselves. A choice may be legal, but that in itself does not make it wise. Apparently in Colorado it is legal to smoke marijuana, a decision to smoke it may be legal but definitley not wise?

Fourthly, does it glorify God? When faced with a decsion on what to do we should be asking, does it glorify God? I would put that as the first perogative, because when we make a decsion based on the action glorfying God, then it will also be good for us, it will be right and it will be wise.

So when faced with a decision stop and think, does it glorify God? then ask God how He wants you to accomplish it.

Where is God in your plans today?

1 Corinthians 6:12 New King James Version

Glorify God in Body and Spirit

12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1 Corinthians 6:20 New King James Version

20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
