Abide with me !

The year only just seems to have started yet we're on the 13th already.

They (who ever they are) say that time goes by quicker when you get older, but the fact is time goes bye at the same rate no matter what age you are, eternity draws nearer each day for everyone.

Last night as I was falling off to sleep I just got the words 'Abide with me', while this is a hymn often associated with funerals, indeed I want it at mine, it is not just about death, it is about life and the need for Jesus thoughout our life not just as we approach death, after all no one, not even the youngest among us is guaranteed tomorrow. Abide with me is a request for Jesus to live with us, every day and in every situation and is taken from the reassuarance of Jesus that if we abide with Him, He will indeed abid with us.

John 15:4-5 New King James Version

4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Time is indeed passing and as the hymn says 'fast falls the eventide' the end is coming fast, but we who are in Chtist Jesus do not have to worry about the end, the hymn also quotes the Bible when it says ' death where is your sting, grave where thy victory' this comes from..

1 Corinthians 15:55 King James Version

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Jesus defeated death when He died on the cross and rose again so that we who are believers have the assurance that we have also defeated death and will live in eternity with Jesus in he presence of God. and while we don't want to die anytime soon we as Christians have no fear of death, we in fact have a calling to live and to proclaim the good news of Jesus and to live the full life He came to give us.

John 10:10 New King James Version

10 I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
